Reasons For Massage

 

  • Pinpoint and rehabilitate muscular injury commonly seen as limping/lameness
  • Provide pain management for chronic conditions such as arthritis or hip dysplasia
  • Remove trigger points and spasms and to normalise the muscular function and activity. Trigger points are painful knots in the muscle that can restrict the way the dog moves causing them to appear to have aged overnight.
  • Support senior dogs who are slowing down
  • Improve gait and posture, allowing the dog to move more freely
  • Aid pain management in dogs unable to tolerate NSAID pain killers
  • Enhance the performance of sporting and agility dogs

 

After 3 sessions dogs that respond typically show signs of

 

  • Resolved or reduced lameness/limping and stiffness
  • Improved mobility and activity levels
  • Increased enthusiasm for walks
  • Return to normal posture and gait
  • Rehabilitation of muscular injury
  • Returning to activities of daily living such as being able to go up and down stairs or getting in and out of the car
  • Being happier to be stroked, groomed and handled

Clinical Trials

Canine Massage Guild – Leading the way

The Canine Massage Guild began participating in the world's first clinical trials with Winchester University and Sparsholt University Centre in 2018. The results, published in the Vet Record in June 2021, found "95% of dogs responded to Canine Massage Therapy". The study also shows "significant decrease in pain severity following canine massage therapy".
