Healing Crisis

bgImage

Also known as the Herxheimer Reaction, this is the body’s way of restoring its natural balance and healing itself after treatment.

Your dog may feel worse for the first 24-72 hours and there may be an increase in their symptoms as the body looks to cleanse itself of impurities, toxins and muscular imbalances. This is a perfectly normal reaction and the symptoms may vary between mild and severe.

Signs of the Healing Crisis to look out for include:

  • Increase in sleeping

  • Lethargy

  • Quieter than normal

  • An increase in muscular or joint pain (lameness may be seen for 48 hours), don’t worry this is the treatment working

  • Frequent urination

  • Increased thirst

  • An increase in the original symptoms (again this is a good sign that the treatment is working)

Canine Massage Guild – Leading the way

The Canine Massage Guild began participating in the world's first clinical trials with Winchester University and Sparsholt University Centre in 2018. The results, published in the Vet Record in June 2021, found "95% of dogs responded to Canine Massage Therapy". The study also shows "significant decrease in pain severity following canine massage therapy".
